Shadow and substance

book chapter 15

All Articles

“The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.”

Romans 8:3 NLT

Without controversy, this is the zenith, the highest point in the history of this world. This marked the transition between shadow and substance.

““Until John the Baptist, the law of Moses and the messages of the prophets were your guides. But now the Good News of the Kingdom of God is preached, and everyone is eager to get in. But that doesn’t mean that the law has lost its force. It is easier for heaven and earth to disappear than for the smallest point of God’s law to be overturned.”

Luke 16:16-17 NLT

In the above Scripture Jesus announced the change from Old to New. This means that we now live in the era of the New Covenant. The Biblical New Testament is actually the New Covenant. All the books of the New Testament are the books of the New Covenant. These New Covenant books describe ‘God’s Solution’. And yes. This is really so. I confirm I am thrilled by this. This means that: Jesus Christ, the Gospel, the Grace, the Kingdom, the Spirit, the righteousness, adoption, Salvation by faith – all belong to the New Covenant! The New Covenant is God’s unbreakable pledge to save those who desire to be saved. It is His enterprise. That is why it is the Good News. The Gospel. By accepting God’s terms, God’s ways, we please Him, and are included – on the way to the destiny He prepared.

“Dear friends, you always followed my instructions when I was with you. And now that I am away, it is even more important. Work hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear. For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”

Philippians 2:12-13 NLT

“When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.”

Romans 5:6 NLT

This Scripture announced that the moment has arrived. “Christ came at just the right time”, “When the fulness of the time has come…”

““Look! I am sending my messenger, and he will prepare the way before me. Then the Lord you are seeking will suddenly come to his Temple. The messenger of the covenant, whom you look for so eagerly, is surely coming,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.”

Malachi 3:1 NLT

Jesus Christ is prophetically called “The Messenger of the Covenant”. The Messenger of the New Covenant. He came with the big mission for the big change. Nothing less than the life of God was big enough to usher-in that change. From the earthly kingdom – to the heavenly Kingdom. From animal sacrifice on the altar of the Temple – to Jesus’ sacrifice on the altar of the world. From token sacrifices, from token sanctuary services, from token obedience, from token forgiveness – to the real things ushered in by the blood of Christ and administered by the Spirit. From the Old Covenant where Moses was the mediator – to the New Covenant where Jesus is the Mediator. From the written law on the tablets of stone – to the living law placed into the human hearts and minds. From human effort – to Spirit effort.

Wow! Our prophesied destinies are now supercharged!

“Now may the God of peace— who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great Shepherd of the sheep, and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood— may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.”

Hebrews 13:20-21 NLT

Dear Jesus. Please accept our heartfelt gratitude for Your Sacred Blood, which enabled God to give His Salvation as a free gift to everyone who believes in You.

““For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16 NLT
